Artspace Projects has promoted three emerging leaders to the vice president level including Dana Mattice, Becky Carlson St. Clair, and Andrew Michelson. Their progression is a recognition of their significant impact in effectively advancing affordable live/work housing developments over the years.
Chief Operating Officer, Will Law, said, “We are ensuring the longevity of this organization by not only thinking about how we effectively develop and operate properties but by supporting the next generation of Artspace leaders.”
In December, Dana and Becky led the planning and execution of Artspace Utica Lofts’ groundbreaking event in Utica, NY. It was a moment eight years in the making thanks, in part, to Dana’s efforts securing funding from key partners such as the New York State Council on the Arts and the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties. Dana continues to lead fundraising efforts for capital developments, including Artspace Feed & Grain in Loveland, CO which is now accepting tenant applications after a decade of development.
During her 12 years with Artspace, Becky has acquired significant amounts of funding needed to complete projects such as $750k of HOPE funds from Dakota County for Artspace Hastings River Lofts in Hastings, MN; tax credits from New York State’s Homes & Community Renewal for Artspace Utica Lofts in Utica, NY; and over 20 sources of financing for Northrup King Building in Minneapolis, MN. Although she is most proud of completing Northside Artspace Lofts on budget and on time (even during the pandemic), she has learned through unexpected public meetings and applications submitted over multiple years never to assume approvals are automatic.
Andrew is one of the longest-tenured Artspace staff, having joined the organization in 2006, leaving in 2011 to lend his expertise to another nonprofit, and returning to Artspace in 2016. Over his 18 years, he cites Harvester Artspace Lofts in Council Bluffs, IA as his most memorable moment as it was the first project he closed and completed as the lead developer. He is also responsible for the work that got Trinidad, CO across the finish line as the first Space to Create project in 2020 (just as COVID hit) followed by Ridgway Space to Create which was a true collective effort with the community and a project he holds dear.
These three personnel milestones parallel upcoming project milestones including the groundbreaking of Northrup King Building Residential in Minneapolis, MN; the groundbreaking of Artspace Windgate Campus in Little Rock, AR; and the finishing construction of Artspace Feed & Grain in Loveland, CO.
