President, Boettcher Foundation

 

Tim Schultz has served as president of the Boettcher Foundation since 1996. During his tenure, he has emphasized working with the dynamic thinkers and leaders who propel Colorado forward and helping local citizens make a difference across the state. 

Tim served as executive director of the Colorado Department of Local Affairs after being appointed in 1987. While there, he designed a program of community development for Colorado’s small towns and served as the first chairman of the Colorado Economic Development Commission. Tim also served on the Colorado Wildlife Commission and chaired the organization for two years. 

He started his career in public service by representing Rio Blanco County as commissioner for two terms before moving to Denver in 1982 to become commissioner of agriculture. Tim began his career as a banker and rancher in the northwestern Colorado town of Meeker. 

Tim serves as board chair for Philanthropy Southwest and is past-president of the Colorado Association of Funders. He also serves on the boards of BBVA Compass and the Biennial of the Americas. 

A Grand Junction native, Tim attended Colorado Mesa University and Colorado State University. He grew up working in his parents’ bakery and is an avid outdoorsman—he has been organizing elk hunts in the woods for 40 years.
