Nick Anderson

Nick Anderson grew up surrounded by wild animals. Birds, frogs, lizards, snakes, fish, coyotes, cougars, bears, anything that darted, fluttered or swam had him captivated. To witness nature’s creations wasn’t enough…he had to create beings of his own! At a young age, art became his favorite pastime.

Nick was drawn in early on with sketching insects, sea life, elaborate battle scenes, followed by practicing lettering and illustrating outlandish creatures. In high school Nick saved up and bought a glass working setup and taught himself glass lampworking, eventually starting his own business Anderson Art Glass. After moving to Santa Cruz Nick focused his attention toward painting, eventually putting together enough work to show at local galleries such as the Hide Gallery, The Mill, Chimera and The Dead Cow. Recently Nick has been experimenting with oil paints and various forms of mural art in order to reach a broader audience.

At present, Nick Anderson lives in the new Artspace Tannery Lofts and works in downtown Santa Cruz where he has his glass studio. The artist residence at the Tannery provides space to work on a multitude of different projects and a community that continuously challenges one another. It has been the perfect place for branching out and extending himself to all sorts of new creative opportunities.
