Overview

Looking to use the power of the arts to improve East Dearborn’s economic base, the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (EDDDA) invited Artspace into the community. Of the 20 potential sites Artspace considered, the most promising proved to be Dearborn City Hall, a three-building campus that occupies an entire block. The City moved its government offices to a more central location within Dearborn.

City Hall Artspace Lofts is a mixed-use arts campus that was renovated based on Southeast Michigan’s heritage as a world center of innovation creating a new anchor institution for the region's creative economy. City Hall Artspace Lofts combines 53 units of affordable live/work space for artists and their families with new work studio spaces located in the Connector building. This newly renovated building offers space for creative businesses/ non profits, and an art and tech lab for residents. There is also a residential live/work unit for an artist-in-residency program.
