Overview

Predevelopment is well underway in Mount Clemens. The team is looking at a downtown site adjacent to the Anton Art Center, our long-time community arts partner and fierce local advocate. We received a $750,000 Housing and Urban Development Grant in 2022 through Congressman Levin's office to support predevelopment. Artspace presented preliminary concepts from Quinn Evans Architects to the City Commission and has an exclusive negotiating agreement with the City of Mount Clemens to develop a project on Pine Street and Macomb Place. We continue to work with our local Steering Committee to inform the design.

Artspace began its engagement in Mount Clemens in 2019, and we heard loudly that the top goal for the community was downtown revitalization. In 2020, 555 people responded to the Arts Market Survey indicating their need for creative space and/or live/work housing. None of the downtown businesses closed during the pandemic, and entrepreneurship in the area has been resurgent. Adding housing will complement an already growing downtown.
