Artspace Immersion is a capacity-building program that helps your arts and culture organization plan for space and navigate the real estate process.

 

Immerse yourself in a year-long learning community to advance your space related goal, all while you practice storytelling, build partnerships, and connect your work with broader discussions of community development and spatial equity. Frequently Asked Questions

Arts and cultural organizations that meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Have a mission dedicated to art, culture, or other creative pursuits.
  • Incorporation as a 501(c)3 nonprofit (co-operatives and fiscally sponsored organizations are welcome to apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • The organization is based in the city of Chicago, IL.
  • Identified space-related initiative (e.g. new or expanded space for your organization’s programs).
  • Evidence of planning work completed or underway.
  • 3-person leadership team that is willing, able, and excited to participate in 1-2 sessions a month and complete independent assignments.

Artspace’s goal is to support organizations that serve historically underserved or marginalized communities and support groups as they strive to create their own equitable spaces.

The first step is to complete an online application. Applicants must apply through the online application system. After completing the online application and successfully meeting all criteria, selected applicants will be invited for an interview.

Applications open Monday, May 13, 2024 at 9:00 am CST and close on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at midnight CST. Applicants chosen to advance to the interview round will be notified shortly thereafter. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in July 2024.

The cohort will meet once a month either in-person or virtually through Howspace, an e-learning platform that contains the program curriculum, social elements, and a library of resources. 

No. Thanks to a generous grant from the Good Chaos Foundation, this program is offered free of cost (an estimated $75,000 value).

  • Team participation at monthly workshops, which will take place the third Wednesday of the month. Three will be in-person (August 2024, winter 2025, and July 2025); and the other nine will be virtual.
  • Team participation in at least five one-on-one coaching sessions throughout the year.
  • Completion of assignments between workshops.
  • Community approach to joining a learning cohort, which includes offering support, asking questions, and respecting other participants.
  • ​​​​​Peer learning community with other arts leaders.
  • Access to local real estate professionals.

  • Technical assistance and document review.

  • Planning tools and frameworks.

  • Connections to our national alumni network.

  • A stipend for organizations that successfully complete the program.
