For those aspiring to positive change in the world, alt_ is a contagious, artist-led engine that pioneers tangible acts of service, using art and faith as tools that galvanize impassioned, self-sufficient communities to join in, at a time when past and present injustices spur them to collectively imagine their best future.

Through the immersion program, alt_ will develop the capacity to participate in the revitalization of the Austin community. alt_ believes this opportunity will assist in the long-term objective of acquiring an abandoned or neglected building and restoring it to serve as a cultural asset, safe space for the community and beacon of light for those inside and those outside the community. Alt_ has thrived at reclaiming abandoned spaces by creating functional art installations, temporary in nature but serving an essential purpose. The knowledge gained through this experience will prepare alt_ to take the next step in developing a permanent space which will serve the vital need of creating a communal space where functional art can be created and appreciated, and an educational environment uniquely designed to nurture the next generation of artists committed to social justice oriented creative placemaking.
