  The Arab American National Museum has launched an artists’ residency that provides space for work and living across the street in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn’s former City Hall.   The museum’s first resident living and working at City Hall Artspace Lofts is Ayman Yossri Daydban, a Palestinian conceptual artist from Saudi Arabia. His work is part of “Epicenter X: Saudi Contemporary Art,” which opens Saturday at the museum and features the work of about 40 Saudi artists.

By the time you read this, Jonathan Thunder will have moved out of his fourth-floor apartment in Washington Studios and down to the second floor. This is probably good news for his cat, Benicio (named after Benicio Del Toro), who once took a flying leap from the window — but walked away with some scrapes and a limp and was fully recovered two weeks later. Thunder, a painter, and animator who lives-works-practices yoga within the same square footage is looking forward to the change — not to mention the sunrise.

Hopkins put art in the heart of its downtown with the opening of the Hopkins Arts Center 20 years ago.Now the city is looking to boost its creative center even more by building affordable housing and studio space for artists.The Hopkins City Council on Tuesday entered into an agreement with Artspace, a nonprofit developer of "live-work" spaces for artists, to explore the possibility. Artspace would tour potential sites in early August and meet with local artists and community members to determine whether there is enough interest in such a project.

Poet and Literary Underground founder Michele McDannold's monthly Legit AF reading series celebrates its first anniversary in Michigan City's Uptown Arts District next Monday. McDannold has given a stage at the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts Building to local artists, and brought in notable writers from across the country.

  About 600 people, many dressed in costumes of animals, danced and sang along the San Lorenzo River during the Ebb & Flow Kinetic Art Parade and River Arts Celebration at the Tannery Arts Center on Saturday afternoon. The event, which started with a parade from the Kaiser Permante Arena to the Tannery, included live music and interactive educational games for children interested in learning about their natural surroundings

The Sailboat Bend Artists Lofts opened in late 2007, providing 37 affordable live/ work units for artists and their families, plus a three-story multi-use space for residents o hold meetings, exhibitions, lectures and other events. WPBT2 took time out to interview a few the building's artists during Open Studio, and talk about their current work and arts community a decade later.
