Where: El Barrio's Artspace PS109

215 E 99th St, New York, NY 10029

When: Tuesday, May 21, 2019

  • VIP Artist Studio Crawl 5 - 6:30pm
    • VIP Artist Studio Crawl attendees will enjoy exclusive performances and art-making activities offered by five El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 residents. Carlos David will photograph stylized headshots of attendees – a perfect occasion to have make-up artist Angel Morales work his magic prior to the camera flash. The evening also provides VIP ticket holders with the chance to discover their inner poet with Bill Keys, and have their jaws drop (just enough to enjoy the catered bites!) at Douglas Carter III’s contemporary dance demonstration. And music played from DJ Jace Clayton’s studio is sure to set the perfect atmosphere for the party milieu.

  • General Admission 6 - 8pm
    • Builders Bash attendees will be lucky enough to see two performances with one ticket (and that count doesn’t even include the live auction!). Resident Osh Ghanimah’s world-class young artist training program, Broadway for All, will demonstrate the power of art at every age, and resident Xianix Barrera will awe the audience with a flamenco performance.

The auctions will begin during the speaking program. El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 is planning a week-long art camp for neighborhood children, which will culminate to a final performance. A Fund-a-Need Auction will provide the means to this fantastic opportunity. Also auctioned during this time is an overnight stay in El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 visiting artist studio – a rare and unique opportunity made complete with a cooking lesson led by resident Terry Rodriguez.

Silent auction artworks and opportunities (such as paintings, jewelry, private dance lessons, custom headshots, and more!) will be available for viewing and bidding throughout the night.

Proceeds from the Builders Bash will ensure that the next generation of affordable, sustainable, and equitable creative spaces are developed and that Artspace continues to expand our arts-based community development work in New York and across the country.
