Speaking Engagements

Do you have an upcoming conference, workshop or gathering where Artspace can help?

The Artspace team brings a breadth of knowledge about real estate development, finance, fundraising, marketing, communications, policy-making, advocacy, and community engagement – and how these areas relate to the arts. On top of that, many of us are artists. We approach this work by avocation and collaborate across multiple sectors to advance spacemaking and placemaking projects.

In addition to conferences and workshops, we are also available for customized webinars that respond to your communities' and organizations' needs.

Let us inspire your group with the possibilities of transforming communities through the arts.

Past Speaking Engagements Include:

Artspace's Consulting Team presented a workshop on how to create artist-in-residency space, based on Artspace's experience owning and operating artist-in-residency space in Dearborn, MI and New York, NY at the Alliance of Artists Communities 2019 Annual Conference. The Annual Conference is the largest summit for the artist residency field, bringing together 400 + arts leaders, community organizers, funders, policymakers, educators, and cross-sector partners from around the world. The 2019 conference was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Artspace's Consulting and Asset Management teams coordinated a mobile workshop tour and panel for 50 urban planners and community developers at the Bell Artspace Campus in the historic Treme neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana during the American Planning Association's 2018 National Planning Conference. The conference coincided with the grand opening of Artspace's first New Orleans project and the panelists discussed ways to create affordable space for artists in new communities and the importance of Artspace's work in POCI communities.

The Architecture + Design Network June Freeman Lecture Series in Little Rock, Arkansas presented a talk in 2019 by Wendy Holmes, Senior Vice President, Consulting and Strategic Partnerships at Artspace. Artspace has spent decades exploring the relationship between cities and their creative communities – and how those connections help everyone become more successful. Ms. Holmes’ talk was titled  “The Symbiotic Relationship Between Artists & Cities”.

Wendy Holmes, Senior Vice President, Consulting and Strategic Partnerships presented at the Arkansas Arts Council's Statewide Conference: ArtLinks 2019 in Fayetteville, Arkansas on using the tools of real estate development to construct or restore places where artists can affordably live and work. Ms. Holmes presented creative placemaking examples throughout the country and the role they play in economic development. The Arkansas Arts Council advances and empowers the arts by providing services and funding for programming that encourage and assists literary, performing, and visual arts in achieving standards of professional excellence.

Artspace's Consulting team presented at a quarterly workshop for select small and mid-sized cultural organizations in 6 cities: Atlanta, Austin, Denver, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. The Arts Innovation and Management program is led by the Devos Institute of Arts Management, and is part of the Bloomberg American Cities Initiative, a suite of investments that empower cities to generate innovation and advance policy that moves the nation forward.

Artspace created brand new materials called Artspace Primer for these workshops.

Annually Artspace has presented at the Colorado Creative Industries Summit on Space to Create, a statewide rural initiative put together in partnership with Colorado Creative Industries, a division of the Office of Economic Development & International Trade. The Colorado Creative Industries Summit was created to serve creative professionals, arts organizations, educators, community groups and municipal agencies and to foster and support Colorado’s creative sector. Past conferences have been held in Salida, Greeley, Trinidad, and Breckenridge.

Keynote address by Greg Handberg, Senior Vice President, Properties on "Planning for Preservation" to the attendees at the South Dakota Historic Preservation Commission Communities and Local Government (CLG) Conference 2020 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Many of the attendees were from small towns across the state, and the presentation addressed how rehabilitation of historic buildings support artists and entrepreneurs and in turn meet broader goals for neighborhood and economic development. Artspace is familiar with South Dakota through the Oglala Lakota Artspace development on the Pine Ridge Reservation in Kyle, SD.

Kelley Lindquist, President of Artspace was a panelist at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation International Conference in Athens, Greece in 2018. The panel included best practices in the field of philanthropy and affordable arts developments. Each year’s theme has varied depending on current challenges, keeping at its core the four program areas of the Foundation: Arts and Culture, Education, Health and Sports, and Social Welfare. The conference is addressed to representatives of other foundations, nonprofit organizations and institutions, as well as to all those who are interested in the role of philanthropy and social giving.
