Terms and Definitions

Multi-use arts facility:

A facility (whether a single building or adjacent or contiguous structures) which may contain residential live/work space, non-residential shared creative spaces, artist studios and/or space for arts/cultural organizations, nonprofits, creative and/or arts-friendly businesses.

Primarily an arts or cultural organization:

We are interested in the needs and preferences of all organizations with a mission or identity that is fully immersed in an arts or cultural theme. Organizations may, but are not required to be a nonprofit. Examples include, but are not limited to: dance/theater company, museum, artist collective, writers' group, visual art center, folk festival, fashion design institute, gallery, etc.

Creative business:

We are interested in the needs and preferences of all businesses that consider themselves creatively driven or immersed. Examples include, but are not limited to: new product/software design company, furniture design studio, marketing firm, architectural firm, film/production company, graphic design studio, etc.

An arts-related organization or business:

We are interested in the needs and preferences of all organizations and businesses that support or serve the creative community, or that have ancillary programs of an arts or cultural nature. Examples include, but are not limited to: artist service agency or arts foundation, social service/social justice organization with creative programming, artist-in-residency or artist housing program, arts retail, music store, art supply store, coffee house with gallery or performance space, etc.

Not an arts organization, creative business or arts-related organization:

We are interested in the needs and preferences of all organizations and businesses that, while not creatively involved, would be a good fit for a creative community. Examples include, but are not limited to: restaurant/café, coffee house, small retail establishment, small/mid-size professional firm, community agency, social justice or at-risk-youth organization, food cooperative, bike shop, pilates/yoga studio, historic conservancy organization, etc.

Lease on an annual basis:

Space that is leased for ongoing or daily operations on a long-term basis (typically 1 year in length or longer).

Leasing space for your exlusive use on a long term basis:

Designated space that would not be shared with other tenants and would be leased for one year or longer (for example, administrative space used only by your organization or business).

Renting, on a short-term or occasional basis:

Space rented for one time, seasonal or periodic events, performances, rehearsals, workshops, etc. Space may be rented on a re-occurring basis, but is not leased under annual rental terms requiring monthly payment.

Capital Campaign:

An organized effort to raise funds to finance major projects, including construction and renovations, or to fund an endowment.
