Artspace Immersion: Twin Cities (2018-19)

Helping turn big ideas into achievable plans

Artspace Immersion in the Twin Cities!

The nine arts and cultural organizations of the Twin Cities cohort represent the breadth of the local creative sector – from performing arts to industrial arts to film and literary arts across Minneapolis and Saint Paul. They also demonstrate the space challenges that all types, sizes, and areas of arts organization face. Artspace is thrilled to have had the opportunity to help them think through different space issues impacting their projects.

Each group joined the Immersion program with a specific space-related initiative including purchasing a new building, expanding in a current location, finding a more stable space to rent, and securing a first commercial lease.

The Twin Cities cohort has come to a close. At the culminating event in June 2019, each organization presented their projects, how far they’ve come, and where their next steps will lead. To the audience’s delight, seven out of nine organizations shared that they have secured new space since starting the program. The other two groups have laid out solid plans for future space.

Artspace Immersion has been really insightful. It has given our leadership team the space and time to think through these problems, and it’s given us access to resources and people with knowledge in real estate, legal, and operational expenses.
